S. Korea Authorities Storm Key Intelligence, Defense Sites
A combined investigative unit of police and military personnel executed search warrants at the National Intelligence Service (NIS), Defense Intelligence Command, and a minimum of 16 additional sites, media reported, citing official sources.
The investigation launched last month following Pyongyang's accusations that Seoul breached its territorial integrity through alleged drone penetrations detected in September and again January 4.
North Korea condemned the purported aerial violations as "another grave infringement upon the sovereignty of North Korea."
In response to Pyongyang's allegations, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung directed authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the suspected drone incursions across the heavily fortified border.
The raids represent the most significant domestic law enforcement action related to the escalating drone controversy, which has further strained relations on the divided peninsula amid already fragile security conditions.
The search operations signal Seoul's commitment to addressing North Korea's sovereignty claims while determining the veracity of the alleged cross-border flights.
